United States Foreign Policy (POLS 4351):
Course Description:
This course focuses on United States foreign policy, especially the drivers and causes of foreign policy, important history related to American foreign policy and applications of foreign policy, especially in key regions. We will explore how important institutions, like the presidency, congress, interest groups, and bureaucracies play an important role in foreign affairs and how American citizens can potentially influence foreign policy behavior. We will also apply our concepts to real-world scenarios.
Federal Government (POLS 2305):
Course Description:
This course covers the American federal government: especially its history and origins, how different institutions affect political behavior and policy making. This spans important institutions like the president, congress, the courts, political parties and interest groups, among many others. In addition, the course focuses on important topics like civil liberties and civil rights. The course will also try to show how citizens can be engaged in federal politics and will try to apply what we learned to the real world.
While I was a graduate student the University of California, Santa Barbara, I was the instructor of record for Introduction to International Relations (POLS 7) (Summer 2023 & Summer 2024). I both taught students and managed teaching assistants for this course.
Course Description:
This course explores the important foundations, theories and issues in International Relations (IR). Among other topics, this course will explore war, international trade, international institutions, and the environment. The course will use many paradigms and theories to explain these topics and will explore IR's place as a social science. The goal of the course is to make you a more critical thinker on international issues and equip you with ways of analyzing world affairs.
